People ask where I get my colors and inspiration?
The answer is that I see them in the world around me. I keep a list of my favorite places to paint ~ and return to them often.
At the top of this year’s list are some of my favorite beaches
Reading The Maremma Guide, I feel as though I have always known author Donna Stiles. An American woman who married an Italian silversmith, (sound familiar?) ~ Donna LOVES Tuscany and it shows! I should also tell you that she loves art, and has a great eye for color, composition, and story telling.
“Nothing less than a natural botanical garden along it’s first stretch, it will take you north along the coast from Calamoresca all the way to the lovely Populonia and the amazing remains of the only Etruscan city by the sea. With Necropoli and tombs hidden in the woods behind.”
Her words paint a wonderful picture that I really must walk into! Her recent article has put this secret beach on my “places to paint” list for this fall’s Tuscany Retreat. I’ll let Donna tell you in her own words and photographs. Don’t you agree ~ she is a fantastic eye for landscape composition!
A Secret Beach in Tuscany Nestled Between Pillows
“A trail waiting for you at the popular meeting place and live music location; the cliff top bar. Nothing less than a natural botanical garden along it’s first stretch, it will take you north along the coast from Calamoresca all the way to the lovely Populonia and the amazing remains of the only Etruscan city by the sea. With Necropoli and tombs hidden in the woods behind.
“Past more of Piombino’s tiny coves and beaches and the “Scoglie della Morte” – the rocks of the dead. Once a royal road, you can find out more about it, the coves and beaches accessible along it’s route, and their legends.” Read Donna’s full article>
My list of places to paint this year grows longer and more intriguing by the day. I am so excited about painting in the Maremma Region of Tuscany, and also in some of my all time favorite places at home in Mathews County, Virginia.
You don’t have to be an expert to paint with me! I think of my canvas as a blank slate for the Creator to show me colors and where to put them. My own personal way of praying through art, in each painting, people tell me the most amazing stories! So inspirational, I invite you to come try it out for yourself. You can start with just a sketchbook or journal. Or go all out with paint!
I’ll be hosting painting weekends for novice and advanced throughout the year on my own wild beaches of Mathews County, aboard an oyster boat, in a secret garden on the bay, and in a festive village where you can paint it all ~ quaint boathouses tucked in a protected harbor, sailboats, coastal marsh with heron, eagle, osprey, and expansive sunrise sunset views as well.
